Description
Mount Kazbek (Georgian: Mkinvartsveri, 'Ice Mountain') is a dormant stratovolcano in Georgia's Greater Caucasus, rising to 5,054 metres on the border with Russia. The highest peak of eastern Georgia, it is the most accessible 5,000-metre summit in the region — no technical rock-climbing skills are required, making it a popular first high-altitude objective for experienced trekkers. The classic south route from Stepantsminda crosses the Gergeti Glacier, threads through crevasses, and ascends an approximately 40-degree snow couloir to the summit plateau. No official permits are needed; registering at the local mountaineering post is recommended. July and August see the most stable weather within a June–September safe window. Main hazards include hidden glacier crevasses, sudden whiteout storms, and powerful high-altitude winds.

Routes
Meteo Station Route — jalur normal (via Gergeti Glacier)
Rute via Gveleti / Abudelauri (pendekatan alternatif utara)
Climbing Experiences
Mount Kazbek (5,054 m) in Georgia is one of the most accessible 5,000-metre summits in Eurasia — the classic route from Stepantsminda (Kazbegi) requires no technical rock-climbing skill, though crampons, an ice axe, and glacier-travel ability are essential. The videos and write-ups below document real climbers' experiences, from the approach past the Gergeti Trinity Church, across the Gergeti Glacier, and up to the pre-dawn summit push from the Meteo Station.
