Description
Mount Kadam (also spelled Kadama or Debasien), about 3,063 m, is a remote mountain in the Karamoja region of eastern Uganda, near the Kenyan border and just north of Mount Elgon. It is classified as an ultra-prominent peak—one of the most topographically prominent mountains in Africa—rising conspicuously from the surrounding dry Karamoja plains. Its slopes are densely forested with granite cliffs, and climbs are infrequent and demanding due to the remoteness and lack of infrastructure; hikers generally rely on local community guides. The area is also known for its wildlife and as the land of the pastoralist Karamojong people.

Routes
Kara-Tunga 3-Day Summit Trek
Sedang, tanpa alat teknisA guided trek of about 29 km to the 3,063 m summit, escorted by armed UWA rangers because of wildlife. It passes dry montane forest and forest-savanna mosaic lower down, with semi-evergreen scrub higher up, and camps positioned for sunrise/sunset over the Karamoja plains.
SourceRute Nakapiripirit – Puncak Nachipai
Menengah; scrambling batuan & bushwhackingThe main route starts from Nakapiripirit District (~1,450 m), covering about 25 km with roughly 1,800 m of total ascent to the 3,063 m summit. The terrain crosses farmland, villages, forest, rocky scrambling, and bushy ridges before reaching the relatively flat summit plateau. The area is undeveloped—hikers must carry everything, including water.
SourceClimbing Experiences
Climbing Mount Kadam (~3,063 m) is typically a 2-day trek from the Nakapiripirit side in Karamoja, eastern Uganda, pushing through farmland, villages, dry forest, then rocky scrambling and bushy ridges to the summit plateau. Hikers describe demanding, bush-choked terrain, tricky navigation, remoteness that forces you to carry your own water, and armed UWA ranger escorts because of wildlife. The sweeping views over the Karamoja plains are the main draw.
