Description
Mount Guiting-Guiting (2,058 m), familiarly "G2", is the highest peak of Romblon province, rising at the heart of Sibuyan Island in central Philippines. Its name in the Romblomanon dialect means "jagged" or "serrated" — an apt description of its knife-edged ridges and jagged crown, which have given it a reputation as one of the most technically challenging mountains to climb in the whole Philippines. Unlike many Philippine peaks, G2 is not volcanic but uplifted ophiolite/ultramafic rock. Sibuyan Island itself is dubbed the "Galápagos of Asia" for its extraordinary biological endemism, and most of the mountain's slopes have been protected since 1996 as the Mt. Guiting-Guiting Natural Park. The classic ascent follows the Magdiwang Trail, passing forest camps, "Mayo's Peak", then the notorious "Knife Edge" — an exposed rock ridge dropping away on both sides — and the "Peak of Deception" that fools climbers repeatedly before the true summit. Climbers must register and take an official guide from the park office (DENR) in Magdiwang; the climb usually takes 2–3 days. The best window is the dry season (about March–May) when the rock is drier.

Routes
Jalur Magdiwang (pendakian klasik pulang-pergi)
Sangat berat/teknis — scrambling batu, Knife Edge tereksposThe main and most common route, starting from the Mt. Guiting-Guiting Natural Park office (DENR) in Magdiwang. Climbers pass forest camps to 'Mayo's Peak', then the iconic 'Knife Edge' — an exposed rock ridge dropping away on both sides — and the 'Peak of Deception' that fools climbers several times before the true summit (2,058 m). Registration and an official guide are mandatory; the rock becomes very slippery in rain.

Sangat berat/teknis — versi lebih panjang dan menuntut dari pendakian standarA traverse variant that crosses the mountain, ascending one side and descending another, stringing together the hardest sections including the Knife Edge. It offers a fuller G2 experience but demands more fitness, logistics and guide arrangements. Registration and an official park guide remain mandatory.
SourceClimbing Experiences
Experiences on Mount Guiting-Guiting (G2) almost uniformly describe it as one of the hardest climbs in the Philippines. Vlogs and trip reports highlight the sharp ophiolite rock terrain, the forest camps before 'Mayo's Peak', then the iconic 'Knife Edge' — an exposed rock ridge dropping away on both sides — and the 'Peak of Deception' that fools climbers repeatedly before the true summit. Many stress the need for an official guide from the park office in Magdiwang, how slippery the rock becomes in rain, the presence of leeches, and the high fitness and mental focus required. Despite its difficulty, creators consistently rank G2 as one of the most rewarding and memorable climbs — set amid the biodiversity of Sibuyan Island, the 'Galápagos of Asia'.
