Description
Mount Exmouth (1,206 m) is the highest peak of the Warrumbungle Range and the highest point of Warrumbungle National Park in New South Wales — a landscape of lava and dramatic rock formations left by a deeply eroded ancient shield volcano. Alongside Belougery Spire, Bluff Mountain, The Breadknife and Crater Bluff, Exmouth is one of the park's signature landmarks; the park is also Australia's first certified Dark Sky Park. Its summit is reached by a long walking track (17 km return) and gives a 360° panorama over the volcanic peaks and the vast western plains. The summit vegetation is sparse — only hardy plants such as mallee eucalyptus survive there — while wildflowers bloom on the lower slopes in spring.
Routes
Grand High Tops → Mount Exmouth (perpanjangan lintasan)
Berat — kombinasi sirkuit Grand High Tops dengan side-trip panjang ke puncak tertinggiMany hikers reach Mount Exmouth as an extension of the famous Grand High Tops circuit — passing landmarks such as The Breadknife and Belougery Spire — then continuing along the ridge to the park's highest summit. This option is usually done over several days with a night at a park camp, combining the Warrumbungles' iconic rock formations with the summit panorama of Exmouth. It demands water planning and logistics because of the long total distance.

Berat — jalur panjang, terpencil, minim air, dengan tanjakan bertahap ke punggungan puncakThe official NSW NPWS walking track to the summit of Mount Exmouth is 17 km return (5–7 hours), usually started from the western side of the park (the Western Spirit / Camp Wambelong area). The track climbs gradually through dry forest to an open ridge with sparse vegetation — only hardy plants such as mallee eucalyptus survive at the 1,206 m summit. The top gives a 360° panorama over the Warrumbungles' volcanic peaks and the vast western plains. Being long and remote, carry plenty of water, start early, and watch for heat and bushfire risk.
SourceClimbing Experiences
Climbing Mount Exmouth is one of the longest adventures in Warrumbungle National Park: a 17 km return walk to the park's highest point (1,206 m), usually done in 5–7 hours or as part of the longer Grand High Tops / Western Spirit circuit. Hikers describe remote terrain with little water, a gradual climb through dry forest, then an open ridge to a sparsely vegetated summit. The reward is a 360° panorama over the Warrumbungles' iconic volcanic landmarks — the Breadknife, Belougery Spire, Crater Bluff, Bluff Mountain — and the vast western plains of NSW. Because of the distance and remoteness, many advise an early start, carrying plenty of water, and watching for heat and bushfire risk.
