Description

Mount Dandenong (Woiwurrung: Corhanwarrabul) is a heavily forested mountain about 633 m high that forms part of the Dandenong Ranges — a segment of the Great Dividing Range — roughly 45 km east of Melbourne, Victoria. Its summit is occupied by SkyHigh Mount Dandenong, a lookout and gardens with wide views over Melbourne and Port Phillip Bay. The area is famous for its mountain ash forest, tree ferns and lyrebirds, and is a favourite recreation area for Melburnians. The most iconic hiking trail on its slopes is the 1000 Steps — Kokoda Track Memorial Walk at Ferntree Gully, a climbing staircase commemorating the Australian soldiers who fought on the Kokoda Track (Papua New Guinea) in World War II, and a popular fitness challenge. A network of tracks in Dandenong Ranges National Park links waterfalls, gardens and the surrounding mountain villages.

Routes

1000 Steps — Kokoda Track Memorial Walk

Sedang (tangga menanjak terus-menerus)
~1,5–2 jam pulang-pergi (loop sekitar 3 km, tanjakan curam)

The most iconic trail on Mount Dandenong's slopes, starting at Ferntree Gully: climbing roughly a thousand steps through fern and mountain-ash forest while commemorating the Australian soldiers who fought on the Kokoda Track, PNG. It is usually done as a loop (up the 1000 Steps, down the Lyrebird Track). Popular as a fitness challenge; steep and can be slippery when wet.
