Description
Mount Cordeaux rises about 1,135 metres in the Main Range of Queensland's Scenic Rim, immediately north of Cunninghams Gap and roughly 116 km southwest of Brisbane. Together with Mount Mitchell across the Cunningham Highway, the two are known as the twin 'sentinels' that flank the gap; the mountain's Aboriginal name is Niamboyoo. The track to the summit lookout climbs steadily through lush rainforest for about 3 km, and can be extended along the ridge to Bare Rock — a rocky outcrop sitting roughly 30 metres higher and forming the highest point of this section of the Main Range. Along the way the track opens to views over the Fassifern Valley and the Scenic Rim. Part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area, it is a popular day walk from Brisbane, with parking, toilets and water (which should be treated) at the trailhead.

SourceClimbing Experiences
First-hand accounts of Mount Cordeaux generally describe an enjoyable, accessible day hike from Brisbane. Recurring themes: a steady climb through lush rainforest to the summit lookout with views over the Fassifern Valley, then the option to extend along the ridge to Bare Rock. Many sources pair it with Mount Mitchell across the gap as the two 'sentinel' walks of Cunninghams Gap. Vlogs and guides stress an early start on hot days, carrying enough water, and enjoying the Gondwana World Heritage forest along the way.
