Description

Mount Coolum (about 208 m) is an ancient volcanic dome standing alone right on the Sunshine Coast shoreline in Queensland and the heart of Mount Coolum National Park. Formed around 26 million years ago, its distinctive rocky mound is an iconic marker of the Coolum area and one of the coast's most popular day climbs. The summit track is relatively short but steep, climbing rock steps and rocky slopes through bushland that shelters rare plant communities, before reaching an open summit with sweeping views over the Sunshine Coast coastline, Coolum Beach, and inland to distant ranges. The mountain is also culturally significant to the Kabi Kabi (Gubbi Gubbi) people, and visitors are asked to stay on the track and respect the area.
