Description

Mount Conner — also known by the Aboriginal name Attila (Artilla) and the tongue-in-cheek nickname 'Fooluru' — is a flat-topped, horseshoe-shaped mesa about 859 m high that rises roughly 300 m above the arid plain in the southwestern corner of Australia's Northern Territory, some 100 km southeast of Uluru along the Lasseter Highway. Because of its shape and position, travellers heading toward Uluru from Alice Springs often mistake it for Uluru — hence 'Fooluru'. Together with Uluru and Kata Tjuta it completes the region's trio of giant landmarks, and it is culturally significant to the Yankunytjatjara people. Unlike Uluru, Mount Conner sits on the privately held Curtin Springs cattle station, so it cannot be climbed freely: ascents onto the mesa are made only through licensed guided tours, while general visitors enjoy it from a roadside lookout facing a salt lake.

Routes

Titik pandang Mount Conner (Lasseter Highway)

Mudah; area pandang umum tanpa pendakian
Singkat (berhenti di tepi jalan)

For travellers not taking a tour, a free roadside lookout on the Lasseter Highway faces Mount Conner on one side and a shimmering salt lake across the road on the other. It is a popular stop on the Alice Springs–Uluru road trip and offers a panorama of the mesa without entering private land.

Menengah; tanjakan berbatu di lahan pribadi, hanya lewat operator berlisensi
±Setengah hari (tur sore/matahari terbenam umum)

Because Mount Conner lies on the privately held Curtin Springs cattle station, the only legitimate way onto the mesa is via a licensed guided tour (e.g. SEIT Outback Australia). Tours typically combine a 4WD drive across the station with a climb onto the mesa's shoulder or top, offering wide views over the desert, salt lakes, and Uluru and Kata Tjuta in the distance, and are often timed for sunset. Independent climbing is not permitted.

Climbing Experiences

Mount Conner (Attila) is often overlooked by travellers fixated on Uluru, yet this giant mesa is one of the Northern Territory's most striking landmarks. Because it sits on the private Curtin Springs cattle station, most visitors experience it from the roadside lookout on the Lasseter Highway or via guided tours that climb onto the mesa. The clips below show experiences of visiting and climbing Mount Conner — from SEIT Outback tours to panoramas of the surrounding desert and salt lakes.
