Description
Mount Bintumani (also Loma Mansa, ~1,945 m) is the highest mountain in Sierra Leone and one of the highest points in West Africa outside Cameroon. Its summit sits in the Loma Mountains of Koinadugu District, amid Guinean montane forest that shelters rare wildlife such as pygmy hippos and several primates. The climb is non-technical but very demanding: the most popular route starts from Sinekoro village (reached by motorbike from Kabala), pushes through rainforest to a series of camps, then opens onto green grassland and a rocky scramble to the flat summit. It typically takes about four days round-trip, with a local guide and customary negotiations with the village chief being mandatory. The best time is the dry season, since the rains turn the trail to mud. The main hazards are extreme heat and humidity, steep slippery terrain, wildlife, plus malaria risk and remoteness from medical help.

Routes
Rute Sinekoro (sisi barat laut)
Berat, non-teknis (trek hutan + scramble berbatu di puncak)The most popular and reportedly most scenic route, starting from Sinekoro village reached by motorbike from Kabala. The trail climbs through rainforest to Camp 1 (~1.5 hrs), then to Camp 2 (4+ hrs) over steep terrain, opening to green grassland and a rocky scramble to the flat 1,945 m summit. A local guide, customary negotiation with the village chief, and foreigner registration at the Banda Karfaia post are required.
SourceRute Sokurala / Mansofinia (pendekatan timur)
Berat, non-teknis; jalur hutan berlumpur dan lembapAn alternative approach from Freetown to Makeni then Mansofinia via Waidu to the last village Sokurala, where the two-day climb begins after negotiations with village elders. The route claws up slippery, muddy jungle tracks in high humidity and is only feasible in the dry season.
