Description

Mount Binalud (about 3,211 m) is the highest peak of the Binalud range, a mountain chain at the eastern end of the Alborz system running through Razavi Khorasan province in north-eastern Iran, between the cities of Neyshabur and Mashhad. As the high point of the region it is nicknamed the "Roof of Khorasan" (Bam-e Khorasan). Its slopes catch moisture that keeps the lower flanks relatively green, with springs and hiking villages such as Zoshk, Shandiz and Dizbad. Binalud is a favourite of mountaineering clubs (koh-navardi) from Mashhad and Neyshabur, with trails that are technically undemanding but require stamina because of the large height gain from the trailhead villages. In winter the summit is snow-covered and windswept, offering local climbers light alpine practice. From the top one sees the Khorasan plains and, on clear days, cities on both sides of the range.

Routes

Jalur Suzaniha dari sisi Neyshabur

Sedang: jalur setapak berbatu tanpa panjatan teknis, berat karena beda tinggi & angin punggungan
1 hari (pendakian panjang pulang-pergi; sebagian tim bermalam di kaki gunung)

One popular route to Binalud's summit starts from the Neyshabur side via the trail known as 'Suzaniha'. Climbers follow rocky slopes and an open ridge to the range's high point (about 3,211 m). It is technically undemanding, but the large height gain and strong wind on the upper ridge make it a stamina- and weather-dependent day — especially when snow lingers.

Jalur desa Ferizi (Firizi, sisi utara)

Sedang: jalur pendekatan pedesaan berbatu, menantang saat bersalju
1 hari (pendakian panjang pulang-pergi dari kaki gunung)

An alternative on the northern side of the massif starts from Ferizi (Firizi) village in Binalud County. From the foothill settlement, climbers ascend through slopes and valleys to the summit ridge. Local hikers use this line into the shoulder seasons; once early-autumn or winter snow arrives, the approach becomes demanding and calls for snow gear and careful weather judgement.

Pendekatan dari desa Zoshk / Shandiz (sisi Mashhad)

Sedang: jalur pendakian klub lokal, medan berbatu & lereng terbuka
1–2 hari tergantung titik awal & bermalam

From the Mashhad side, ascents usually begin around the green, spring-fed villages of Zoshk/Shandiz, then climb through valleys and open slopes to Binalud's summit ridge. This route is widely used by Mashhad mountaineering clubs and can include a night at the foot of the mountain. As with the other lines, the main challenge is physical endurance against the height gain plus wind and snow at altitude.

Climbing Experiences

Binalud footage is almost entirely Persian-language vlogs by Iranian hikers from Mashhad and Neyshabur mountaineering clubs. Videos show ascents from the foothill villages — often via the 'Suzaniha' route from the Neyshabur side — through green slopes and springs before the rocky ridge to the 'Roof of Khorasan' summit. Recurring themes: the large stamina-draining height gain, strong wind on the upper ridge, winter snow, and the Khorasan-plains panorama from the top.
