Description
Mount Bierstadt (4,287 m / 14,065 ft) in Colorado's Front Range is often called the state's easiest and busiest fourteener. Its trailhead sits right atop the Guanella Pass Scenic Byway, about an hour from Denver, so the climb starts well above treeline. The standard West Slopes route runs roughly 7 miles round trip with ~730 m of gain: crossing a willow marsh and wooden bridges at Scott Gomer Creek, then climbing cairn-marked tundra slopes to a short Class 2 scramble on the summit. From the top you see the Sawtooth—the jagged Class 3 ridge linking it to Mount Blue Sky (formerly Mount Evans)—and the Denver skyline on clear days. The peak is named after landscape painter Albert Bierstadt, who made the first recorded ascent in 1863.

Routes
Sawtooth Traverse (Bierstadt–Mount Blue Sky)
Berat (Class 3, eksposur)An advanced traverse for experienced hikers linking Bierstadt to Mount Blue Sky (formerly Mount Evans) via the jagged Sawtooth ridge. The Sawtooth section is exposed Class 3 scrambling above Abyss Lake and demands route-finding and a steady head. It is usually done as a two-summit loop and needs a car shuttle or a long return walk.
West Slopes dari Guanella Pass
Sedang (Class 2, non-teknis)The standard and most popular route, ~7 miles (11 km) round trip from the trailhead atop Guanella Pass. It starts by descending across a willow marsh and wooden bridges at Scott Gomer Creek (~11,500 ft), then climbs cairn-marked tundra to the summit ridge. The final stretch is a short Class 2 rock scramble to the 14,065 ft top. Since the whole route is above treeline, summit before afternoon thunderstorms—start before dawn.
Climbing Experiences
Mount Bierstadt (4,287 m) is Colorado's go-to beginner fourteener: the ~7-mile West Slopes route from Guanella Pass crosses a willow marsh, then cairn-marked tundra to a short Class 2 summit scramble. Climbers highlight the easy access from Denver, weekend crowds, afternoon lightning risk, and snowy winter variants.
