Description

Mount Beerburrum (278 m) is one of the thirteen peaks of the Glass House Mountains in the Sunshine Coast hinterland of Queensland — a cluster of volcanic plugs that rise abruptly from the coastal plain. The peaks formed from magma intrusions that solidified about 26–27 million years ago and were later exposed as the softer surrounding rock eroded away. Beerburrum is the most accessible summit: its trailhead sits near the town and railway station of Beerburrum, and a short but steep sealed path climbs to the top, where an old fire-lookout tower stands. The summit gives sweeping views toward Tibrogargan, Beerwah and Coonowrin. Its traditional names come from the Gubbi Gubbi and Jinibara Aboriginal languages; the explorer Matthew Flinders climbed Beerburrum in 1799.

Routes

Mount Beerburrum Summit Track (jalur puncak beraspal)

Mudah–sedang — jarak pendek tetapi tanjakan tajam dan konstan di permukaan beraspal
+150 m ±30–45 menit naik; ±1–1,5 jam pulang-pergi (± 1,4 km pp)

The only formal route to the Beerburrum summit is a sealed footpath that leaves the trailhead car park at the base of the mountain, near the town and railway station of Beerburrum. The roughly 700 m one-way path climbs almost continuously to the 278 m summit, where an old fire-lookout tower stands. Because it is sealed and steep, the track can be slippery when wet and gives a decent cardio workout despite its length — an ideal introduction to the Glass House Mountains before more technical peaks such as Beerwah or Tibrogargan. The summit opens a 360° panorama toward the neighbouring peaks and the Sunshine Coast.

Climbing Experiences

Climbing Mount Beerburrum is often a first taste of the Glass House Mountains, thanks to its easy-to-reach trailhead and short track. Hikers agree the sealed summit path is brief (about 700 m one way) but climbs steeply and almost continuously, so it is a solid cardio effort even though it takes roughly half an hour. The reward is a 360° panorama from the 278 m summit toward the neighbouring peaks — Tibrogargan, Beerwah, Coonowrin — and out to the Sunshine Coast. Videos highlight the old fire-lookout tower at the top, the surface that turns slippery when wet, and the value of good footwear for the descent.
