Description
Mount Baker, also called Kiyanja, is a ~4,844 m peak in Uganda’s Rwenzori Mountains — the sixth-highest mountain in Africa and one of the three main summits (with Mount Stanley and Mount Speke) ringing the upper Bujuku Valley. It sits just ~2.8 km from the DR Congo border in the area known as the “Mountains of the Moon”. The Rwenzori are not volcanic but an uplifted fault block (horst) of ancient rock, so the summits are solid rock rather than volcanic cones. Climbing Baker is usually part of the multi-day, wet and muddy Central Circuit through its signature giant lobelia and groundsel; the summit block needs scrambling/rock climbing, so many trekkers stop on the ridge below the true top. Rwenzori weather is famously damp, with rain and mist on most days.

Routes
Central Circuit (via Bujuku, dari Nyakalengija)
Sangat berat (alpine, scramble batu di puncak)The classic Rwenzori loop from Nyakalengija gate, circling through the Bujuku Valley below Mount Baker, Stanley and Speke. Muddy, boggy terrain with giant vegetation; the Baker summit is reached from the col above Bujuku and requires rock scrambling. Run by Rwenzori Mountaineering Services with mandatory guides and porters.
SourceKilembe Trail (dari selatan)
Sangat beratAlternative southern approach from Kilembe run by Rwenzori Trekking Services, linking into the high traverse toward the main peaks including access to Mount Baker. Longer but with varied valley scenery.
