Description
Mount Amos is a granite peak of about 454 metres in Freycinet National Park on Tasmania's east coast, Australia. It forms part of The Hazards range on the Freycinet Peninsula and is celebrated for one of Australia's most iconic outlooks: an elevated view over Wineglass Bay, a crescent of white sand fringing turquoise water. The ascent is short but steep, roughly 4 km return and about three hours, with much of the route involving scrambling over smooth, sloping granite slabs. Tasmania's Parks & Wildlife Service rates it a Grade 4 track suited to experienced bushwalkers with sure-footed shoes and a head for heights. The climb becomes hazardous when wet because the granite loses grip, so it is recommended only in dry conditions. The walk begins at the Wineglass Bay car park, and visitors must hold a valid Tasmania Parks Pass to enter the national park.

SourceClimbing Experiences
Accounts of climbing Mount Amos are strikingly consistent on two points: the extraordinary view of Wineglass Bay from the top, and the surprisingly steep terrain. Many creators describe the upper section as scrambling across open granite slabs that demands hands and feet, and warn against attempting it when the rock is wet and slick. Some vlogs highlight a tough solo ascent, while others start before dawn for the morning light on the bay. Recurring themes include the need for grippy footwear, decent fitness, and comfort with exposure. Though short, nearly everyone agrees the panorama is well worth the effort.
