Description

Monte Terminillo (2,217 m) is an Apennine massif in central Italy, part of the Monti Reatini group, in Lazio some 32 km from Rieti and about 100 km from Rome. Known in antiquity as Monte Gurgure and Mons Tetricus, it is one of the best-known symbols of the Sabina region and a constant landmark along the Roman consular road Salaria (the 'Via del Sale'). Because its ski resort is so popular with residents of the capital, Terminillo is nicknamed 'la montagna di Roma' (Rome's mountain), and since the 1930s it has occasionally hosted mountain-stage finishes of the Giro d'Italia. The range is rich in biodiversity, with habitats and species of conservation value. The classic ascent to the summit often starts from the Sella di Leonessa, while the 'giro dei rifugi' circuit links huts such as the Rifugio Sebastiani and Rifugio Rinaldi around the Monte Terminilletto — making it a hugely popular destination for hiking, snowshoeing and ski-mountaineering year-round.

Routes

Alpinismo invernale / ciaspolata (Monti Reatini)

Menengah-berat di musim dingin — butuh ciaspole atau ramponi, kapak, dan pengalaman salju
Bervariasi (setengah hari–1 hari, tergantung kondisi salju)

In winter, Terminillo becomes a popular destination for light mountaineering and snowshoeing. The snowy slopes and gullies around the summit and Monte Terminilletto are travelled on snowshoes or crampons; the terrain can turn hard and avalanche-prone on certain slopes, so it demands snow-condition judgement, proper gear and experience. Winter-ascent footage shows the use of crampons and the typical snow conditions of the Monti Reatini.

Salita classica dalla Sella di Leonessa

Escursione menengah (E) — jalur bertanda; di musim dingin menuntut ciaspole/ramponi
~4–5 jam pulang-pergi

The classic route to the summit of Monte Terminillo (2,217 m) usually starts from the Sella di Leonessa on the north side. A marked trail climbs through meadows and open slopes to the summit ridge, with wide panoramas over the Monti Reatini and, on clear days, the Piana Reatina towards Rome. In summer it is a moderate hike; in winter it becomes a snow climb that requires snowshoes or crampons and care in mist, which makes orientation near the summit tricky.
