Description

Mont Nlonako is a mountain roughly 1,822 metres high in Cameroon's Littoral Region, just southeast of the town of Nkongsamba. It lies on the Cameroon Volcanic Line (Ligne du Cameroun), the chain of volcanic massifs crossing Cameroon, although the mountain itself is built of syenite. Its slopes are cloaked in dense rainforest ranging from lowland to montane zones and are dotted with waterfalls and natural pools, with the well-known Ekom-Nkam falls nearby. Nlonako is famous among scientists for its exceptional biodiversity: it is regarded as one of the richest single localities for reptiles and amphibians in Africa, with endemic species such as the frog Arthroleptis nlonakoensis, and part of it is a proposed wildlife reserve. Hikes usually start from Nkongsamba (the village of Egnoki), climbing through forest that is often muddy and steep. English-language documentation is scarce; most references are in French.

Climbing Experiences

Experiences on Mont Nlonako center on the rainforest climb from Nkongsamba and visits to its slopes and waterfalls. The videos and travel notes below — mostly in French — show the dense, wet jungle, the ascent from the village of Egnoki, and the natural attractions around the mountain. Beyond hiking vlogs, the mountain is widely documented for its herpetofauna: conservation reports highlight it as one of Cameroon's most important amphibian and reptile diversity hotspots.
