Description

Mont Ngaoui (~1,410 m) is the highest mountain of the Central African Republic and the high point of the Massif de Yadé — a mountain massif in north-western CAR and eastern Cameroon that forms the eastern flank of the Adamawa Plateau. The massif is a granitic plateau crowned by a line of peaks reaching nearly 1,300 m, ringed by tilted slopes and the Bouar-Bocaranga high plateau (800–1,000 m); its summit, Mont Ngaoui, sits squarely on the Cameroon–CAR border and has long served as a geographical marker between the two nations. The name 'Yadé' was given by commandant Lenfant in a 1909 publication, after a now-vanished village west-south-west of Bocaranga. Because of its remoteness, Mont Ngaoui has almost no dedicated climbing documentation: reaching it requires a long vehicle approach across the Adamawa highlands (the nearest gateway is around Ngaoundéré in Cameroon), permits, a local guide, and usually military clearance because it lies directly on an international border.

Climbing Experiences

Mont Ngaoui has almost no dedicated summit footage because it sits remotely on the Cameroon–CAR border. The verified sources below frame the same region — the granitic Adamawa highlands around Ngaoundéré (the nearest gateway) and the Massif de Yadé — as real context for its terrain and access.
