Description

Mont Mou rises near Païta in southern Grande Terre, New Caledonia. Wikidata confirms its mountain identity, coordinates and sovereign country France; the approximately 1,219 m elevation follows local accounts because Wikidata has no elevation statement. IUCN describes ultrabasic rocks and cloud forest in the reserve. The classic ascent crosses an initial wooded section, open scrub and humid moss forest; Actuel NC gives about 7 km return with 950 m of ascent. A July 2015 trip report places the summit marker within forest, so views are mainly enjoyed from open sections. The aircraft wreck requires an additional descent beyond the summit and a climb back, rather than being a compulsory waypoint before the top.

An optional extension to the summit hike, documented in a July 2015 account. Beyond the forest summit marker, the trail descends steeply into scrub toward the aircraft wreck.
