Description
Menengai (2,278 m) is a giant shield volcano on the floor of the Great Rift Valley, directly above the town of Nakuru, Kenya. Its caldera, roughly 12 × 8 km, is one of the largest in the world and the second-largest volcanic caldera in Africa — formed about 8,000 years ago, while the volcano itself is around 200,000 years old. The caldera floor is filled with rough, hard-to-cross post-caldera lava flows, and the steep rim offers sweeping views over the Rift Valley and Lake Nakuru. Menengai is a popular sightseeing and easy-hiking destination: many visitors drive or walk to the crater rim for sunrise and the panorama, while surrounding forest trails suit trekking and trail running. The area also hosts a geothermal power project (Geothermal Development Company), so geothermal steam is often seen venting from fissures.

Routes
Rim & Crater Floor Loop (dari Viewpoint)
Menantang (turun-naik dasar kaldera)The route starts at the highest point on the caldera rim (Viewpoint, 2,278 m), descends along the rim to a second viewpoint, then drops more steeply to the crater floor, loops around the escarpment and climbs steeply back to the start. A KFS guide is mandatory.
SourceSecondary Viewpoint (pulang-pergi)
Mudah–sedangA short out-and-back from the main Viewpoint to the secondary rim viewpoint, suited to visitors with limited time who want caldera and Rift Valley panoramas without descending to the crater floor.
SourceClimbing Experiences
