Description

Gunung Manglayang (1,818 m) is a dormant volcano straddling the border of Bandung Regency and Sumedang Regency in West Java. Geologically, it is a remnant of the ancient Gunung Sunda — a massive prehistoric volcano whose collapse formed the Bandung Basin. Manglayang is not listed among Indonesia's monitored active volcanoes by PVMBG; however, remnant volcanic features are visible: a southward-facing caldera depression at the summit and lava-breccia outcrops near the Barubereum trail at around 1,395 m. Four main hiking routes exist: Batu Kuda (most popular and beginner-friendly, departing from Wanawisata Batu Kuda, roughly 2 hours to summit), Palintang in Ujungberung, Barubereum (steeper, suits experienced hikers), and Ciporeat/Cilengkrang. The summit offers a panoramic view of Bandung city to the west and Sumedang to the east. There are no water sources on any trail — hikers must carry sufficient water from the trailhead.
