Description
Maja Jezercë (2,694 m) is the highest peak of the Dinaric Alps and the highest peak lying entirely within Albania — the country's second highest overall after border-straddling Korab. It rises in the heart of the Accursed Mountains (Prokletije / Bjeshkët e Nemuna), about 5 km from the Montenegro border, on a Triassic dolomitic-limestone massif. Its name, 'peak of the lakes', comes from the cluster of glacial cirque lakes at its northern foot in the Buni i Jezercës area — home to some of the southernmost surviving glacial masses in Europe. Its reputation is severe: climbing sources call it one of the toughest and most dangerous peaks in the Accursed Mountains, with scrambling on exposed rock, barely marked paths and demanding route-finding. The usual trailheads are Theth in Albania or the Grbaja/Gusinje valley on the Montenegro side, often combined with the Peaks of the Balkans trail network. The first recorded ascent was in 1929, and Jezercë remains a target for experienced mountaineers ready for remote terrain and extreme weather — its western slopes receive up to about 6 metres of precipitation a year.

Routes
Sisi Montenegro: Vusanje / Zastan (Grbaja–Prokletije)
Sulit — pendekatan alpine berbatu dari sisi utara ProkletijeA route from the Montenegro side starting at Vusanje/Gusinje, climbing to the Zastan plateau then to the summit; climbers from Prokletije usually come this way. The terrain is scree and rock with cairn-based navigation where the path disappears in rockfall zones, giving direct access to Maja Jezercë's north side above the lake basin.
SourceTheth via Qafa e Pejës & Buni Jezercës
Sulit dan panjang — pendekatan lembah danau lalu scramble puncakA route from Theth crossing Qafa e Pejës then dropping into the Buni Jezercës glacial basin with its cluster of turquoise lakes at the mountain's foot before the summit push. Because of its length it is best split over two days with a night near the lakes, offering dramatic dolomite and limestone-cirque scenery.
SourceValbonë / Rragam (Fusha e Gjes') via jalur selatan
Sulit — scramble alpine untuk pendaki berpengalaman; scree lepas, ledges terbuka, panjat batu pendek dekat puncakThe shortest and most common route, from the small village of Rragam/Fusha e Gjes' (~949 m) in the Valbonë Valley to the 2,694 m summit with over 1,100 m of ascent. The terrain is very steep and rocky with scrambling and short climbing near the top; most incidents in the area happen here. It needs a pre-dawn start, a helmet, and crampons/ice axe if snow remains.
