Description
Lion's Head (~669 m) is an iconic peak in Cape Town, South Africa, sitting between Table Mountain and Signal Hill within Table Mountain National Park. The hike is short but steep: a path spirals around the sandstone cone before a more technical upper section with metal ladders, rock chimneys and chains/handholds — there is also a slightly longer “no-chains” alternative. The summit gives a 360° panorama over the city, Table Mountain, the Atlantic and the Twelve Apostles, making it a hugely popular sunrise, sunset and full-moon hike. Being short and near the city, it is often crowded; basic safety awareness is still advised.

Routes
Jalur Alternatif “Tanpa Rantai”
Sedang (sedikit lebih panjang, eksposur lebih rendah)
2–3 jam PP
A variation that avoids the chain/ladder section by taking a slightly longer detour, suited to those less comfortable with exposure. Still steep on the final approach to the same summit.
The main route from Signal Hill Road spirals around the cone then climbs the technical section with metal ladders, rock chimneys and chains/handholds to the 669 m summit with its 360° panorama. Steep and sometimes crowded; carry water, and thin gloves help on the chains.
Lion's Head is one of Cape Town's most popular hikes — short, steep, with metal ladders and chains up top and a 360° panorama over Table Mountain, the city and the Atlantic. Beyond sunrise, it has a 'full moon hike' tradition: hikers set off before dusk to catch sunset from the summit, then descend by moonlight. The verified sources below include sunrise vlogs, full-moon experiences, reviews of the technical section (chains and two new ladders installed in 2023) and independent trail guides.
