Description
Lanín (about 3,776 m; some sources cite 3,747 m) is a symmetrical, ice-clad cone-shaped stratovolcano on the Argentina–Chile border in the northern Patagonian Andes. Its summit is the emblem of Argentina's Lanín National Park and adjoins Chile's Villarrica National Park. Volcanically it has long been quiet—its last eruption is estimated around the 6th century CE. The climb is popular and technically relatively simple, but highly exposed: the usual route from the Argentine side begins near Lake Tromen via the Mamuil Malal Pass, while another approach lies beside Lake Huechulafquen; the main base towns are Junín de los Andes (Argentina) and Pucón (Chile). The ascent typically takes two days with a night at a mountain refuge, the summit day climbing snow and ice slopes on crampons.

Routes
Pendekatan sisi Huechulafquen (selatan)
SourceRuta Normal Norte (Espina de Pescado, via Paso Mamuil Malal)
SourceClimbing Experiences
Lanín is usually climbed over two days from the Argentine side via the Mamuil Malal Pass near Lake Tromen: mandatory registration at the park post, a hike up to a refuge (RIM/CAJA or BIM) for the night, then a summit day on crampons up snow-and-ice slopes to the symmetrical 3,776 m cone. The Spanish-language videos below document the requirements, refuge life, and summit day.
