Description
Ky Quan San, also known as Bạch Mộc Lương Tử, is a 3,046 m mountain between Lai Chau and Lao Cai in northwest Vietnam. The Sang Ma Sao approach is commonly spread over three days: climb to a hut near 2,100 m, reach the summit and return to the hut, then descend to the village. The Broad Life’s firsthand account describes tiring slopes and sections requiring hands; the writer also missed the anticipated sea of clouds. On the Lai Chau side, the official tourism guide describes an approach from Sin Suoi Ho of about 12 km each way, with two nights camping. Village managers help notify border authorities, although procedures need reconfirmation. Elevation and summit location follow Vietnamese Wikipedia; Wikidata identifies the same mountain but lacks an elevation claim and supplies different coordinates.

Routes
Jalur Ky Quan San (sisi Lao Cai / Sang Ma Sao)
BeratThe operator itinerary starts at Ky Quan San village in Sang Ma Sao: day one climbs to the 2,100 m hut; day two passes the area around 2,800 m, reaches the 3,046 m summit and returns to the hut; day three descends to the village. The itinerary targets the summit around midday, rather than sunrise at the summit.
SourceJalur Sin Suoi Ho (panduan pariwisata Lai Chau)
BeratThe official Lai Chau guide (2021) describes about 12 km from village to summit, one way. Day one covers roughly 9 km to camp; day two reaches the summit and returns to the same camp; day three descends to the village. Bring identification and arrange notification of authorities through village managers; reconfirm camp conditions and procedures.

Five hiker videos are complemented by The Broad Life’s firsthand account. That three-day report describes exhaustion on the way to the 2,100 m hut, rocky sections requiring hands on summit day, and a sea of clouds that did not appear. A three-day plan allows two hut nights; actual timing depends on conditions and the group’s ability.
