Description
Kusum Kanguru (6,367 m) is a striking triple-summited peak in Nepal's Khumbu region, not far from Lukla — the air gateway to the Everest area. Its Sherpa name means 'Three Snow-White Gods', a reference to its three summits. Although the Nepal Mountaineering Association administratively classes it as a 'trekking peak', Kusum Kanguru is in fact renowned as one of the most technically difficult in that category: all three of its faces present steep mixed ice and rock walls and sharp ridges. The numbers show how demanding it is — between 1978 and 1998 only 9 of 22 expeditions succeeded. The first ascent of the main summit was made solo by New Zealander Bill Denz on 7 October 1981 via the southwest buttress (west face), descending the northwest flank — also the mountain's first solo ascent and first traverse. A Japanese team made the second ascent via the southeast face a few days later, and in 1988 a British expedition climbed the previously unclimbed east face. Because of its difficulty and low success rate, Kusum Kanguru is a target for experienced alpinists rather than ordinary trekkers.

Routes
Buttress/Dinding Barat Daya (Southwest Buttress / West Face) — jalur pendakian pertama
Sangat teknis (TD+): buttress campuran es-batu curam menuju punggung barat, medan alpine beratThe historic route pioneered solo by Bill Denz in 1981: climbing a mixed ice-and-rock buttress to the left of the southwest face to gain the west ridge, then the main summit (6,367 m), descending the northwest flank. It is the best-known and one of the most demanding lines — requiring mixed-climbing skills, fixed rope and icefall management. It is not a beginner's route despite the mountain's 'trekking peak' label.

Sangat teknis (TD): dinding es/batu curam di sisi tenggaraKusum Kanguru's second ascent route, climbed by a Japanese team in October 1981 a few days after Denz's first ascent, up the steep southeast face. Together with the east face opened by a British expedition in 1988, this line confirms the mountain's reputation as a serious technical peak on every side — a target for experienced alpinists.
SourceClimbing Experiences
Kusum Kanguru holds NMA 'trekking peak' status but is in fact one of the Khumbu's most technical 6,000-metre peaks, so its documented experiences are more expedition reports and climbing history than casual vlogs. The sources below cover Bill Denz's 1981 first ascent, attempts on the various faces, and the routes and logistics of technical expeditions offered by licensed Nepali operators.
