Description

Kunanyi / Mount Wellington (1,271 m) is the summit of the Wellington Range rising directly above Hobart, the capital of Tasmania, Australia. The name kunanyi comes from the palawa kani language of Tasmanian Aboriginal people, and the mountain now carries the dual name kunanyi / Mount Wellington. Its most distinctive feature seen from Hobart is the cliff of dolerite columns known as the Organ Pipes. Its lower slopes are thickly forested and laced with many walking tracks and a few fire trails, while the summit is open, often windy, and can be snow-covered even in summer. A narrow sealed road climbs to the summit (about 22 km from the city centre), where an enclosed lookout offers views of the city, the Derwent estuary, and the distant World Heritage Area. Hikers have many route options — from the climbing Pinnacle Track and Zig Zag Track, to the Organ Pipes Track running beneath the dolerite cliffs, to combination routes such as the Icehouse Track — making kunanyi an extremely accessible day-hiking destination from the city.

Routes

Jalan puncak (Pinnacle Road) untuk akses non-pendakian

Tanpa pendakian — akses kendaraan

Mudah–menengah (Great Short Walk) — relatif datar di bawah tebing
Jalur jalan kaki menengah; biasanya beberapa jam

Pinnacle Track (ke puncak via The Springs)

Climbing Experiences

Experiences on kunanyi / Mount Wellington vary widely because of the many track options and the road to the summit. Some visitors drive to the summit lookout and take in the views over Hobart, while hikers choose foot tracks such as the Pinnacle Track, the Organ Pipes Track (running beneath the dolerite columns), the Zig Zag Track, and combination routes like the Icehouse Track. Vlogs commonly highlight how fast the summit weather changes — wind, fog, cold, even summer snow — and the contrast between the thick forest below and the open rocky ridge above. Some make an overnight hike from Hobart, and many stress how easily accessible the mountain is straight from the city.
