Description

Krn (2,244 m) is the highest peak of the Krn Mountains, a sub-chain of the southwestern Julian Alps in Slovenia, rising above the Soča Valley near Kobarid and Bovec. The mountain is famous for its 360° panorama — from the main Julian Alps ridge (Triglav) to the Friuli plain and the Adriatic Sea — and for its grim history as part of the Isonzo Front in World War I; Italian alpini captured its summit in 1915, and remains of trenches and rock caves are still visible on its slopes. Marked hiking trails start from Drežnica, from Lepena via the Dom dr. Klementa Juga hut, and from the Lake Krn (Krnsko jezero) side — Slovenia's largest mountain lake. These routes converge near the Gomiščkovo zavetišče summit shelter before finishing up the open summit cone. The ascent is long with a large elevation gain, but non-technical in summer conditions.

Routes

Iz Drežnice / preko Krnskih jezer (jalur bertanda dari sisi barat)

Menengah (markirana pot): jalur bertanda panjang, sebagian curam & terbuka di bagian atas
1 hari (±4–5 jam naik; total p.p. 8–9 jam)

A marked route from the Kobarid/Drežnica side, often combined with the trail past Lake Krn (Krnsko jezero), Slovenia's largest mountain lake. The trail climbs the slopes until it meets the summit path near the Gomiščkovo zavetišče shelter, then finishes up the 2,244 m summit cone with its 360° panorama. The elevation gain is large; the upper part is open and rocky.

Iz Lepene preko Doma dr. Klementa Juga

Menengah (markirana pot): pendekatan lewat hut, punggungan atas terbuka
1 hari (±3,5–4,5 jam naik dari hut)

A route from the Lepena Valley that passes the Dom dr. Klementa Juga hut, then climbs slopes and ridge to the Krn summit. Remains of WWI Isonzo Front trenches and caves are still visible along the slopes, giving the route a historical dimension in addition to the wide Julian Alps panorama. Many hikers overnight at the hut to split the ascent.
