Description
Kriváň (2,494 m) is one of the most iconic peaks of the High Tatras (Vysoké Tatry) and a cherished symbol of Slovak national pride. Its name comes from the Slovak 'krivý' (crooked), a nod to the bent, hook-shaped summit that makes it recognizable from afar. In the 19th century it became the site of patriotic pilgrimages, and the annual mass ascent 'Výstup na Kriváň' continues the tradition today. Though not technically difficult, the climb is strenuous: the classic route from Tri studničky or Štrbské Pleso passes through forest and the dwarf-pine (kosodrevina) zone, then climbs steeply across scree before a final rocky ridge to the top. Kriváň sits within the Tatra National Park (TANAP), so its high trails are closed through winter.

Routes
Pendekatan dari Tri studničky (paling pendek)
Menengah–sulit: titik awal terpopuler, tetap panjang & curamFrom the Tri studničky car park, the green-marked trail cuts through the Grúnik area and dwarf-pine zone, then switchbacks up steep scree before merging with the summit ridge. It is the shortest and most popular start (about 4 h up, ~1,355 m gain), but still demands stamina.
SourceRute klasik dari Štrbské Pleso via Jamské pleso
Menengah–sulit: panjang & melelahkan, scrambling ringan di punggungan puncakFrom the Štrbské Pleso lake resort, the trail heads to Jamské pleso, then turns at Rázcestie pod Kriváňom before a steep ~1,000 m climb over scree to the 2,494 m summit. It is an all-day mountain hike for fit hikers; the final ridge involves light scrambling. TANAP closes the high trail in winter.
SourceClimbing Experiences
Kriváň draws hikers wanting to summit Slovakia's national symbol and enjoy one of the finest panoramas in the High Tatras. The classic route sets off from Tri studničky or Štrbské Pleso, cutting through forest and the dwarf-pine (kosodrevina) zone before climbing steeply over scree to the final rocky ridge. Documented experiences range from summer point-of-view vlogs from Tri studničky and a cinematic 4K film to winter accounts via the Tatra Magistrála from Štrbské Pleso. Many hikers stress the route's length (about 18–19 km round trip) and the light scrambling near the top, and note that TANAP closes the high trails through winter.
