Description

Kongde Ri (often written Kwangde, about 6,187 m at its highest summit) is a long, cliff-walled mountain rising directly across the valley from Namche Bazaar in Nepal's Everest region. Its jagged skyline is an iconic backdrop for trekkers arriving in the Khumbu, and its steep north side is known as serious ice-and-rock climbing terrain for alpinists. For general visitors, 'Kongde' is better known as a high viewpoint and lodge on the southern side (around 4,250 m) — reached by a trekking route from Namche/Thame or by helicopter — offering sweeping panoramas of the Everest range, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and Thamserku. Kongde Ri thus has two faces: a technical summit that challenges climbers, and one of the most spectacular vantage points in the Khumbu for taking in the Himalaya.

Routes

Rute pemanjatan puncak (sisi utara/teknis) — untuk pendaki alpine

Sulit / teknis (dinding es & batu curam, tali & perlengkapan alpine wajib)
Ekspedisi beberapa hari dari base camp

The summits of Kongde Ri (up to about 6,187 m) are serious alpine climbing objectives, especially on the steep north face of mixed ice and rock. The summit routes require an experienced team, permits and technical equipment, and are climbed far less often than the viewpoint-oriented southern side. The terrain is remote, inside Sagarmatha National Park across the valley from Namche.

Trek ke viewpoint Kongde (sisi selatan) via Namche / Thame

Trekking sedang (tanjakan ke ~4.250 m, butuh aklimatisasi)
1–2 hari dari Namche Bazaar (pulang-pergi)

The most popular non-technical way to enjoy Kongde. From Namche Bazaar or via Thame, the trail climbs the southern side of the mountain to the Kongde viewpoint and lodge (about 4,250 m). This vantage point offers sweeping panoramas of the Everest range, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and Thamserku. Because it is high and slightly off the main Everest trail, many reach it as a quiet detour or by helicopter.

Climbing Experiences

Experiences on Kongde Ri split in two: trekkers enjoy the southern side via the Kongde viewpoint and lodge (about 4,250 m) with panoramas of the Everest range, while its cliff wall is an iconic backdrop from Namche Bazaar. The clips below show the trekking route to Kongde, viewpoint moments and views of its wall from the Khumbu valley.
