Description

Kolahoi Peak is a 5,425 m mountain in the Lidder Valley of Jammu and Kashmir, India; its identity, elevation and coordinates match Wikidata Q6427004. This sharp Himalayan summit is known as the Matterhorn of Kashmir. The trek from Aru passes Lidderwat and Satlanjan toward the Kolahoi Glacier area, but visiting the glacier differs from climbing the summit. John Hunt’s firsthand account documents a south-face ascent in 1935, while John A. Jackson describes the north-glacier approach through the Neve–Mason Couloir and east rock ridge. Both show that the summit is an alpine climbing objective; these historical accounts do not establish present route conditions.

Hunt and Brotherhood approached from Armiun Nar, crossed the glacier and followed a south-face rib to the east ridge near the summit. They chose the east ridge for descent. The account emphasizes the long climbing day and exhaustion; present conditions and access require reassessment.

Jackson describes a north-glacier approach and a couloir climb toward the east rock ridge. The team changed camp access because of avalanche danger and abandoned an attempt in storms. Treat the account as historical context, not navigation instructions or evidence of present safety.

These are operator stages, not a current trail survey; the source’s total-distance figures are inconsistent and are not adopted as a route total.
