Description
The Knuckles Mountain Range — known to Sinhala residents as Dumbara Kanduvetiya, the 'mist-laden mountain range' — stretches across central Sri Lanka in the Matale and Kandy districts. British surveyors named it 'Knuckles' because a series of folds and peaks on its western side resemble the knuckles of a clenched fist when seen from Kandy. Its highest peak is Gombaniya (~1,906 m). The massif is a climatic microcosm of all Sri Lanka: from warm lower slopes to isolated cloud forests at altitude that harbour extraordinary endemic flora and fauna — more than a third of the island's endemic trees, shrubs and herbs occur only here. Since 2010 the Knuckles Conservation Forest has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage 'Central Highlands of Sri Lanka'. The area is popular for guided trekking, including the 'Mini World's End' viewpoint and the five-peaks traverse.

Routes
Lintasan lima puncak / pendakian Gombaniya
BeratA longer traverse of the main Knuckles peaks — including Gombaniya (~1,906 m), the massif's highest point, and the 'Five Peaks' cluster (~1,864 m). It crosses isolated cloud forest and high grasslands, often done over two days with camping. As a conservation forest it requires a Forest Department permit and a guide; cold, wet, misty conditions demand proper gear.
SourceTrek Mini World's End & titik pandang
SedangA popular trek to 'Mini World's End', a sheer cliff dropping into misty valleys on the southern side of the Knuckles massif. The route crosses cloud forest and grassy hills with wide views in clear weather. It is usually done as a guided day trek from villages such as Deanston/Riverston; the trail can be slippery and leech-ridden when wet, and mist often closes in the views.
SourceClimbing Experiences
The Knuckles range is one of Sri Lanka's most popular trekking destinations: guided trails cross cloud forest, grassy hills, waterfalls and viewpoints such as 'Mini World's End', which drops into misty valleys. The weather changes fast and trails can be wet and leech-ridden, so a permit and guide are usually required. The videos below document a range of Knuckles experiences — from day treks and camping to multi-peak traverses — showing the terrain, mist and biodiversity.
