Description

Kitzsteinhorn (3,203 m) rises above Kaprun in Salzburg, within Austria’s Glockner Group of the Hohe Tauern. Cable cars reach Top of Salzburg at 3,029 m, while the actual summit requires a steep high-alpine ascent. The operator rates the summit path difficult and offers rope-protected guided climbs. Hikers also report rockfall and icy sections, so lift access does not remove the demands of alpine terrain. Lower alternatives include the glacier-lake walk from Alpincenter and Alexander-Enzinger-Weg to Maiskogel; availability depends on weather, snow and lift operations.
