Description
Kings Peak (4,123 m) is Utah’s highest mountain, in the Uinta Mountains and High Uintas Wilderness. The popular Henry’s Fork approach passes Dollar Lake, Gunsight Pass and Anderson Pass before a rocky summit scramble. Distance varies with the line taken: Justin Fague reports roughly 25 miles, while Wikipedia gives a 29-mile round trip. Trips are often spread over three days; Fague himself stopped at Anderson Pass to stay with an unwell companion while other group members summited. A longer alternative forms a loop from China Meadows through Henry’s Fork, Kings Peak, Yellowstone Basin and the Red Castle area. Hyrum Wright’s account shows how wind, snow and freezing nights can force itinerary changes even in August.

Routes
China Meadows–Kings Peak–Red Castle loop
Berat; backpacking panjang, navigasi dan scramble Kelas 2The reported 36-mile loop links China Meadows, Henry’s Fork Basin, Gunsight Pass, the edge of Painter Basin and Kings Peak. It descends into Yellowstone Basin, crosses Smiths Fork Pass and returns through the Red Castle area. The author found less distinct trails on the Yellowstone side; the party’s fast pace is not a general completion estimate.
SourceHenry's Fork Trail (jalur standar)
Berat; scramble batu menuju puncakFrom Henry’s Fork Trailhead to a camp at Dollar Lake, then Gunsight Pass and Anderson Pass before the summit ridge; return the same way. This report gives about 25 miles (40 km) for a three-day itinerary, with distance depending on the line taken. The author stopped at Anderson Pass while other group members summited.
SourceClimbing Experiences
The sources cover multi-day backpacking, single-day outings and a longer loop from China Meadows. Three written accounts add distinct perspectives: Justin Fague stopped at Anderson Pass to stay with an unwell companion; Climber Kyle completed a loop through Yellowstone Basin and Red Castle; Hyrum Wright delayed his summit attempt because of wind and snow. The conditions described belong to the original trips and are not current trail reports.
