Description
Jebel el Kest (Djebel Lkest, Adrar n Lkst) is a mountain of about 2,359 metres in the Anti-Atlas range of southern Morocco, rising above the fertile Ameln Valley near the town of Tafraoute. Its summit, Afa n Tmzgadiwin, makes it one of the highest points of the Anti-Atlas. Unlike the region's volcanoes, the massif is built of ancient, hard quartzite, forming jagged crags and rock towers in silvery to orange hues that have made it a magnet for trad climbers worldwide — the Tafraoute/Ameln area is often called Morocco's trad-climbing paradise. At its foot lie Berber (Amazigh) villages, terraced almond orchards and argan trees, while its slopes offer quiet day hikes with sweeping views over the valley and the pink granite boulders around Tafraoute. Reaching the ridge and summit is generally a matter of paths and non-technical scrambling, though loose rock, heat and dryness demand good water planning. The area is far less crowded than Toubkal in the High Atlas, offering a quieter, more authentic Moroccan mountain experience.

Routes
Panjat tebing tradisional (trad) di tebing kuarsit Tafraoute
Berat/teknis — trad climbing pada kuarsit, beragam tingkat kesulitanThe Jebel el Kest massif and the crags around the Ameln Valley are among Morocco's best-known trad-climbing destinations. Climbers place their own protection on quartzite cracks and faces, from short routes to multi-pitch, making the Tafraoute area a magnet for international climbers.
SourceTrek puncak dari Lembah Ameln (Tagdicht/Oumesnat)
Menengah — jalan setapak dan scrambling non-teknis di medan kuarsit; bukan panjat teknis, tetapi menuntut fisik dan navigasiThe common walking route starts from the Berber villages of the Ameln Valley (e.g. Tagdicht or Oumesnat) near Tafraoute, climbing past terraces, almond/argan groves and rocky slopes to the ridge and the summit Afa n Tmzgadiwin. It is a matter of paths and non-technical scrambling, with heat and scarce water the main challenges; a local guide helps with orientation in the maze of quartzite valleys.
