Description

Jebel Ayachi (~3,747 m) is a long massif in Morocco's Eastern High Atlas, with a ~47 km ridgeline, half of it above 3,000 m. Its lower slopes hold remnant cedar and juniper forest. It is usually climbed from the Tounfite side; the summit is snowy in winter and was once thought to be Morocco's highest peak.

Routes

Jalur Cirque de Jaffar (dari Ait Omghar, sisi utara)

Sulit (perlu pengalaman pegunungan; sebagian off-trail; akses 4WD diperlukan)
2 hari (bermalam di lembah Ijimi, ~5 jam naik hari ke-2)

Alternative northern approach via Cirque de Jaffar. Requires 4WD ~16.5 km from Ait Omghar to River Jaffar crossing, then on foot through the dramatic Taqqat n-Ijimi gorge (~3 km) and up Ijimi valley (~6 km) to Tizi n'Tirecht pass (~3,140 m). Camp in the Ijimi valley on day one, then summit from the north on day two — a more technical line than the Tattiouine route. Rarely attempted without an experienced guide.

Route Segments

  1. 1

Ait Omghar → Oued Jaffar → Ngarai Taqqat n-Ijimi

    ⏱ ±4–5 jam termasuk drive 4WD

Transfer 4WD 16,5 km; kemudian jalan kaki di ngarai dramatis Taqqat n-Ijimi (~3 km)

  2. 2

Ngarai Taqqat n-Ijimi → Lembah Ijimi → Camp

    ⏱ ±2,5 jam

Menyusuri Ijimi Assif (~6 km); camp di lembah Ijimi

  3. 3

    Camp Lembah Ijimi → Tizi n'Tirecht (3.140 m) → Puncak Jebel Ayachi (3.747 m)

    ⏱ ±4–5 jam 3.747 mdpl

Pendakian dari utara melalui pass Tizi n'Tirecht; medan lebih teknis dari sisi Tattiouine

Jalur Tattiouine – Punggungan Utama (Via Tounfite)

Sedang–Berat (punggungan panjang, ketinggian ±3.747 m, off-trail sebagian)
±8–10 jam PP (1 hari); bisa bermalam di kaki gunung

The most common route starts from Tattiouine village (~1,700 m, ~15 km from Midelt). The path passes through pastureland and thinning cedar forest, then follows an increasingly open ridge to the Jebel Ayachi summit (3,747 m). About 4–5 hours up, 3–4 hours down. A local guide from Midelt is strongly recommended as the trail is not always clear.

Route Segments

  1. 1

    Tattiouine (~1.700 m) → Hutan Cedar

Climbing Experiences

Climbing Jebel Ayachi follows a long ridge in the Eastern High Atlas, usually from the Tounfite/Tattiouine side through remnant cedar forest. Hikers highlight the massif's remoteness, the sustained and steep ridge, cold temperatures at ~3,747 m, and minimal infrastructure — no huts or teahouses on the route. A local guide from Midelt is strongly advised. Best seasons: April–May and September–October.
