Description

Jbel Bou Iblane (also written Bouiblane or Bou Iblan) is a massif in the Middle Atlas, Taza Province, Fès-Meknès region of Morocco, about 3,081 m high according to Wikipedia — some sources put its highest summit, Moussa ou Salah, close to 3,190 m. Contrary to the arid image of Morocco, Bou Iblane is famous as the 'snow kingdom' of the Middle Atlas: each winter its ridges are buried under deep snow, it holds Atlas cedar forest, and it once even had a small ski tow, making it a ski-touring destination. For walkers, the mountain is climbed from the Taffert forest station/refuge through the cedar wood and up schist slopes to the summit — a non-technical ascent usually spread over two days with a night at the refuge. Its remoteness, old cedars, and the snow-against-desert contrast make it one of the most unexpected corners of Morocco's mountains.

Routes

Ascension bersalju / ski de randonnée dari Taffert (musim dingin)

Sulit — medan bersalju, butuh ski-alpinisme/piolet-cramp
1–2 hari

The winter version: Bouiblane's deep-snow slopes become a ski-touring and snow-climbing arena from the Taffert refuge. It demands snow gear and experience, avalanche awareness and tolerance of severe cold — the 'Alpine' side of the Middle Atlas.

Refuge/stasiun kehutanan Taffert → puncak (jalur normal, 2 hari)

Menengah — non-teknis di musim hangat
2 hari (bermalam di refuge Taffert)

The main warm-season ascent. From the Taffert forest station/refuge, the route passes through Atlas cedar wood then climbs schist slopes to the summit (Moussa ou Salah, about 3,081–3,190 m), usually split over two days with a night at the refuge. No technical difficulty, but long and remote. Available roughly May to October.

Climbing Experiences

Bou Iblane is most documented in two opposite seasons. In winter it becomes the Middle Atlas 'snow kingdom' — a ski-touring target and the subject of documentaries about deep snow and high-altitude life. In the warm season it is climbed as a non-technical summit from the Taffert refuge, usually over two days. The sources below cover a walking ascent, ski touring, a documentary, hiking-club reports, and a trek-operator page.
