Description

Illimani (6,438 m) is the highest peak in the Cordillera Real and Bolivia's second-highest summit after Nevado Sajama. Towering south of La Paz, it is a national symbol of Bolivia and revered by the Aymara people — its name means 'golden eagle' in Aymara.

Routes

Rute Normal West Ridge (4 Hari)

Sedang–berat
+2038 m 4 hari

Rute standar dari La Paz menuju Pinaya lalu base camp (4.400 m)—hari kedua naik ke high camp Nido de Cóndores (5.500 m)—hari ketiga summit attack melewati punggung glasier West Ridge dan punggungan salju pisau (knife-edge) ke puncak (6.438 m). Memerlukan crampon, ice axe, dan aklimatisasi baik.

Rute South Face

Berat
+2100 m 5–6 hari

Jalur lebih teknis via sisi selatan Illimani—melibatkan pemanjatan es lebih curam sebelum bergabung dengan rute utama dekat puncak. Cocok bagi pendaki dengan pengalaman teknis glasier yang solid.

Climbing Experiences

Illimani (6,438 m), the 'golden eagle' in Aymara, dominates the La Paz skyline and is Bolivia's national symbol. The standard 4-day climb goes from La Paz to base camp (4,400 m), then to the high camp Nido de Cóndores (5,500 m), before a glacial summit push. The route is rated non-technical to moderate but demands strong acclimatization, crampons, and an ice axe. Climbers report extraordinary summit views — La Paz and Lake Titicaca clearly visible.
