Description

Ilâmane is a volcanic rock spire in the Atakor area of Algeria’s Hoggar Mountains. Wikidata records an elevation of 2,739 m and preferred coordinates of 23.25375° N, 5.51614° E. Reaching its summit requires rock climbing, while desert treks can stop at its foot. SAC accounts distinguish the classic north-northwest ridge from the south face; grades in older accounts are historical documentation. Tamera’s trek follows the Ilamane wadi to a camp below the spire. An Alpine Journal account adds a new southwest-face line climbed in January 1977, graded V by its author. An EXPES account from 2007 also records climbing Ilaman, without identifying the route. A GUMS account published in 2010 records two members turning back on the north ridge because of wind and cold while others reached the summit, illustrating the weather exposure of this high desert. A 1967 DAV account names a northeast ridge; its differing orientation from SAC should be preserved rather than treated as a single topo. Regional camel treks do not automatically include this technical summit.

Luckock places the start on a terrace above the notch, left of Frolich–Prange, finishing right of Salson–Berandini’s southwest direct route. Climbing is sustained and highly exposed. The account supplies no topo or route-specific duration; four days in the area included several summits and is not this route’s duration. This historical description does not establish present anchor conditions.

Climbing Experiences

The selection distinguishes Ilâmane summit-climbing reports from foothill treks and journeys viewing the mountain. DAV, SAC and the Alpine Journal provide historical documentation; ridge orientations in older accounts are not always consistent and are not a current topo. I-Trekkings and Country Highpoints add camel-trek, camp and surrounding-area context without being treated as evidence of an Ilâmane summit ascent.
