Description

Huaytapallana rises to 5,557 m in Peru’s Junín Region and is the highest peak of its namesake range. Wikidata classifies it as a mountain at approximately 11.5864° S, 74.8208° W. Trips from Huancayo commonly reach Virgen de las Nieves before following lakes and rocky slopes below the glaciated ridge. Petr Liška’s field account describes the high traverse above Jatuncocha and Yanaucsha and distinguishes the walking trail from entering crevassed glacier ice. A visit to the lakes or ice margin is not an ascent of the 5,557 m summit. Galileus also recounts respect for Pachamama and the apus during a guided walk to Carhuacocha.

Trek ketinggian tinggi / High-altitude walk

Walk from the La Estancia area at Abra Huaytapallana to Laguna Carhuacocha. Galileus describes a guided group moving slowly along the hillside before gathering by the lake for an earth-honouring ceremony. This is an initial lake-walk section, not a summit route; the group’s timing is not treated as a universal estimate.

Trek berat di ketinggian / Strenuous high-altitude trek

The Gigaplaces account climbs from Virgen de las Nieves to a saddle, then traverses slopes above Jatuncocha and Yanaucsha to the glacier margin. The author describes returning the same way or completing a circuit past the lakes. The walking route ends at the ice: entering the glacier adds crevasse hazards and is not an ordinary continuation of the trek. This 2016 account does not establish current ice or access conditions.

The first-hand Gigaplaces account adds the route from Virgen de las Nieves across slopes above the lakes to the glacier margin, warning of crevasses on the ice.
