Description
Himlung Himal (7,126 m) rises in the Peri Himal of northern Nepal, close to the Tibetan border and neighbouring the Manaslu and Annapurna massifs. Although only opened to climbing in 1992, it has become one of Nepal's most popular 7,000 m expeditions — often called a 'beginner' 7,000er thanks to high summit success rates, relatively low technical difficulty, and controlled objective hazards compared with other Himalayan giants. The approach threads the remote, scenic Nar-Phu region: from Koto on the Annapurna Circuit, climbers head up the seldom-visited Phu Valley to a base camp around 4,900 m. From there the normal route climbs through three high camps on progressively steepening snow and ice — mostly around 30°, with the final summit section steepening to roughly 40°. Its blend of beauty, remoteness and a technically 'accessible' ascent makes Himlung a favoured stepping stone for climbers preparing for 8,000 m peaks. The panorama from its flanks and summit spans Manaslu, Annapurna, and the Damodar/Peri Himal cluster with the Tibetan plateau beyond.
Routes
Rute Normal — Koto → Lembah Phu → Base Camp → Camp I–III → Puncak (flank barat laut)
Menengah (ekspedisi 7.000 m): lereng salju/es umumnya ~30°, bagian akhir hingga ~40°, dengan tali tetap, crampon, dan kapak es; bahaya objektif relatif rendahHimlung Himal's normal route starts at Koto on the Annapurna Circuit, threading the remote Nar-Phu region up the Phu Valley to a base camp around 4,900 m. From base camp the expedition sets three high camps — Camp I (~5,350 m), Camp II (~6,000 m) and Camp III (~6,350 m) — before the summit push. The climb follows the south flank of the northwest ridge over rock, moraine and progressively steepening snow slopes; mostly around 30°, with only the final section near the summit steepening to roughly 40°. Low objective hazard, high success rates and the Manaslu–Annapurna panorama make it a popular first 7,000 m expedition. Success hinges on thorough acclimatisation during the approach trek and a stable weather window.
