Description
Hengshan (衡山), or Mount Heng, is a sacred mountain in Hunan Province, south-central China, known as Nanyue (南岳, 'Southern Mountain') among China's Five Great Mountains (Wuyue). Rather than a single cone, Hengshan is actually a mountain range about 150 km long with 72 peaks; its highest, Zhurong Peak, reaches 1,300 m and is named after the fire god of Chinese mythology. For centuries it has been a center of Taoist and Buddhist pilgrimage: at its foot stands the Grand Temple of Mount Heng (Nanyue Damiao), the largest group of ancient buildings in Hunan, while its slopes hold Zhusheng Temple (an 8th-century Buddhist monastery), Fuyan Temple and Shangfeng Temple. For modern hikers, Hengshan offers a classic stone-stair route through forest and temples up to Zhurong to watch sunrise over a sea of clouds, with tourist buses and a cable car available for an easier ascent.

Routes
Bus wisata + kereta gantung (opsi ringan)
Mudah (minim mendaki)A lighter option for visitors who do not want to climb all the steps: the Nanyue scenic-area tourist bus carries passengers up the mountain road, followed by a cable car to an area near the summit, then a short walk to Zhurong. It suits pilgrims and family travelers, though it shortens the forest-and-temple trail experience.

Mudah–sedangHengshan's main hiking route starts at the mountain's foot near the Grand Temple of Mount Heng (Nanyue Damiao), then climbs thousands of stone steps past a series of temples such as Zhusheng and Shangfeng up to Zhurong Peak (1,300 m). Many hikers set off before dawn to catch the sunrise over a sea of clouds. The trail is well maintained but long and demanding on stamina; in rain and winter the stone steps can be slippery and fog-bound.
SourceClimbing Experiences
Hengshan (Nanyue) in Hunan is usually climbed via a classic multi-kilometer stone-stair route through forest and temple complexes up to Zhurong Peak (1,300 m) to watch sunrise above the clouds; tourist buses and a cable car are also available for an easier ascent. The videos below document that experience — from the 12 km hiking trail and snow- and rime-covered summit (雾凇) to the misty atmosphere of this sacred mountain.
