Description
Hakkōda is a volcanic mountain group in Aomori, northern Honshu, whose highest summit is Ōdake (1,585 m). Trails from Sukayu Onsen connect Ōdake and the Kenashitai marshes, while the traverse from the upper ropeway station crosses Akakuradake and Idodake before reaching Ōdake. The Japan Tourism Agency describes the ropeway–Ōdake–Sukayu traverse as roughly 8 km and five hours, with limited facilities. Visitors seeking a short walk can choose the Gourd Line near the station, a separate outing from the summit traverse. Hikers report family outings, windy weather and rain-soaked marshes; winter conditions require a separate assessment.

Routes
Gourd Line — jalan lingkar rawa dekat stasiun ropeway
Ringan pada kondisi jalur musim panas yang sesuai; 1,0 atau 1,8 kmThe maintained gourd-shaped paths around the upper ropeway station offer 1.0 km/30-minute or 1.8 km/60-minute walks through marshes and alpine vegetation. Most of the route has little climbing. This outing does not reach Ōdake’s summit; check weather and ropeway operation first.

The Japan Tourism Agency gives 8 km and approximately five hours. This is a ridge hike with limited facilities, distinct from the short walks around the station.

Six hiking accounts cover the Sukayu–Ōdake circuit and outings through the Kenashitai marshes. A family video offers a shared-trip perspective, while another records strong wind and cold around the summit. Scott’s account describes the ropeway–Kenashitai–Sukayu descent and boardwalks flooded after rain. Dates and trip figures belong to each source’s own outing; check current weather and trail conditions before hiking.
