Description

Gunung Tikung is a non-volcanic peak of 1,885 metres located deep within Kayan Mentarang National Park, Malinau Regency, North Kalimantan. The park is one of the largest and most remote expanses of tropical rainforest in Southeast Asia, covering approximately 1.35 million hectares of largely pristine forest. Gunung Tikung lies far into the park's interior, accessible only after lengthy river and overland travel from the nearest town. Because of this extreme remoteness, dedicated climbing documentation for the summit is very limited; trail details, ascent time, and facilities are not publicly recorded. Anyone planning an attempt would need to mount a multi-day self-sufficient expedition, obtain official permits from Balai Besar TNKM, and hire local Dayak guides familiar with the terrain.
