Description
Gunung Sunda is an extinct volcanic remnant standing at 1,854 metres in Purwakarta Regency, West Java. It is one of three surviving cones of the ancient Proto-Sunda stratovolcano (Gunung Sunda Purba), a large Pleistocene-era volcano that collapsed in a catastrophic Plinian eruption. The collapse left behind three distinct cones still standing today: Gunung Sunda, Tangkuban Perahu, and Gunung Burangrang. Unlike the still-active Tangkuban Perahu, Gunung Sunda is extinct and shows no volcanic activity. The mountain offers a forest hike with views over the Purwakarta area from its summit.
