Description
Gunung Sanghyang (also spelled Sengayang) is a volcano in the Bedugul volcanic area of Tabanan Regency, Bali, and one of the island's highest peaks. It has more than one summit — including a North peak, the True (highest) peak at roughly 2,080-something metres, and a South peak — so elevation figures vary slightly between sources; the point recorded here is its south peak (about 2,093 m per map data). It sits fairly remote, flanked by Mount Batukaru to the south, Mount Lesung to the north and Mount Pohen to the east (near the Bali Botanic Garden), keeping it away from the tourist crowds with quiet trails. Climbs usually start from the Bedugul–Wanagiri area or from Gesing village, Banjar district, Buleleng Regency, reaching the top in around three hours. Because the route is forested and lightly travelled, a local guide is recommended. Note: sources disagree on the exact ranking and height of each summit, so the figures here are presented as reported.
