Description
Gunung Catur (2,096 m) is a dormant, caldera-topped volcano in the Bedugul highlands of Bali and one of the island's four highest mountains. Its summit is more commonly called Pucak Mangu because of Pura Pucak Mangu, a Balinese Hindu sanctuary there that is still used for religious ceremonies. Its lower slopes lie around Pelaga village, Petang district, Badung Regency, on the border with Tabanan Regency. The ascent is a relatively gentle forest trek considered beginner-friendly, typically taking 3–4 hours up and 2–3 hours down via routes from the Bedugul tourism area or from Petang/Pelaga village. From the summit and along the trail, hikers enjoy views of Lake Beratan and the surrounding Bedugul mountains. Because the peak is a temple site, climbing Gunung Catur has more of a pilgrimage-and-nature character than an extreme mountaineering one.
