Description
Mount Prau (2,590 m) is the highest peak on the Dieng Plateau, Central Java, sitting on the boundary of four regencies: Batang, Kendal, Temanggung, and Wonosobo. It is celebrated as one of Central Java's best golden-sunrise viewpoints, offering a panorama of volcanic giants — Sindoro, Sumbing, and Merapi — stacked on the horizon. Its rolling green ridge, dotted with Javanese edelweiss meadows, is affectionately known as the 'Teletubbies Hills'. Six official basecamps serve the mountain, with Patak Banteng and Dieng being the most popular; the Dieng route is notably gentle and beginner-friendly. Although part of the active Dieng Volcanic Complex, Prau's summit itself is dormant and safe to climb.
