Description

Gunung Pencu is a small hill in Desa Ngandagan, Pituruh district, Purworejo Regency, Central Java, known more for its historical site than as a hiking trail. The hill holds a fort-like stone cave/passage that locals call 'Goa Gunung Pencu' or 'Goa Soekarno'. According to local accounts, President Soekarno visited Ngandagan in 1947 to inspect the village's model citrus-farming and fishery projects and is said to have rested to enjoy the cool air on the hill's eastern side — making it the only site in Pituruh district recorded as visited by Indonesia's first president. The site is now largely neglected: the cave mouth is overgrown with shrubs, its stone passages mossy and pierced by tree roots, and its independence-era inscriptions have faded. Ngandagan villagers use a miniature of Gunung Pencu as their village icon. Its exact elevation is not documented in public sources, and this hill is distinct from the popular 'Bukit Pencu' in Blora.
