Description
Gunung Panjang (Acehnese: Gunong Panjang) is a forested hill in Aceh Province, western Sumatra, about 1,700 km northwest of Jakarta. According to GeoNames and the digital elevation model (Viewfinder Panoramas) cited by Wikipedia, its summit stands roughly 1,470 m above sea level (the Acehnese Wikipedia gives ~1,400 m) and rises only about 70 m above the surrounding terrain, with a base some 1.3 km wide. The land around it is mostly hilly, turning mountainous to the southeast; the nearest higher point is Gunung Kapal (2,783 m), about 14.8 km to the southwest. The area is almost entirely forest-covered with a tropical rainforest climate (Köppen Af): mean temperature about 19 °C and rainfall around 3,207 mm per year. No specific climbing routes, access details, or local accounts are documented in open sources, so this profile is limited to verified geographic data.
