Description
Mount Merbabu is a dormant stratovolcano in Central Java rising to about 3,145 metres, sitting just north of Mount Merapi and protected within Mount Merbabu National Park. It is known for broad savanna ridges and 'sea of clouds' views, with popular trails including Selo, Suwanting and Wekas. The Selo route is a favourite for beginners but still demands fitness given its length and fast-changing weather.

Climbing Experiences
Most first-hand accounts of climbing Mount Merbabu centre on the Selo route (via Gancik): beginner-friendly yet demanding, with a long trail and fast-changing weather. Climbers describe wide savanna fields, 'sea of clouds' sunrises, fog and strong winds on the ridges, and encounters with wild monkeys. These notes come from YouTube vlogs, personal trip blogs, and hiking sites — every link is verified reachable before it is shown.
